ઇ(જી)મેલ અને સલામતી
* હમણાં, મારા એક સહકર્મીને ઇમેલ આવ્યા કે તમે તમારો પાસવર્ડ બદલવા માંગો છો, તો લિંક પર ક્લિક કરો. આ Forgot Your Password બહુ જ ભારે વસ્તુ છે! કોઇક એમાં ભોળવાઇ જાય અને ભળતી લિંક પર ક્લિક કરે જે પાનું જીમેલ (કે કોઇપણ ઇમેલ સાઇટ) જેવું જ બનાવ્યું હોય અને તમારા પાસવર્ડનો ઘડો-લાડવો થઇને તરત તમારું લોગીન જતું રહે.. એવું પણ બને કે તત્પુરતી તમારી માહિતી ચોરવા માટે બીજાં લોકો બીજે ક્યાંયથી તમારા એકાઉન્ટમાં લોગીન કરે.
જીમેલને વિનંતી કે પાસવર્ડ વિનંતી કરે ત્યારે સાથે IP Address મૂકે જેથી વિનંતી ક્યાંથી કરી તે જાણમાં રહે.
હા, જીમેલ તમારું લોગીન છેલ્લે ક્યાંથી વપરાયું તેની સરસ માહિતી આપે છે!
૧. જીમેલમાં લોગીન કરી, છેક છેલ્લે સુધી જાવ.
૨. અને નીચેનું વાક્ય શોધો, Details પર ક્લિક કરો.
૩. Details પર ક્લિક કરતાં નીચે પ્રમાણેની પોપ-અપ જેવી વિન્ડો ખૂલશે:
આ તમને તમે ક્યાંક લોગીન ખૂલ્લું મૂકીને નથી આવ્યાને, તે વિશે જાણકારી આપશે.
નોંધ: આ ઝાંખુ-ઝાંખુ દેખાય છે, એ IP Address મેં કર્યું છે. કંઇક છુપાવવા માટે, પણ એ કંઇ છુપાવી ન શકાય તેવું જાણવા છતાં!!

Hi Kartik,
You might remember me from my comment on your blog post regarding the email address written incorrectly in the newspaper
Regarding this post of yours, a simple thing for a regular user to do is
1) to ignore such emails
2) always manually type in the address of the website (or bookmark it)
3) see the lock icon (for SSL enabled websites) on address bar/status bar.
And if possible, avoid use of public computers which could have software to log the keys typed in (keyloggers).
I think a normal user understands the steps I mentioned. You can add your thoughts as well, if you find any other simpler way to avoid being phished.
