આઈપેડ
* iPad – આ વિચિત્ર નામ છે, એપલનાં બહુ રાહ જોવડાવનાર ટેબ્લેટનું. વિચિત્ર છે. સ્ટિવ જોબ્સ કંઈ નામ બદલવાની વાત કરી રહ્યો હતો, જો એવું થાય તો સારું છે – નહિતર લોકો iPill ને પણ એપલની પ્રોડક્ટ ગણવા માંડશે!

ગઈકાલે રાત્રે મોડા સુધી જાગી લાઈવ અપડેટ જોતો હતો. મજાની વાત છે કે એપલ હવે એમ કહે છે કે તે સૌથી મોટી મોબાઈલ કંપની છે. જમાનો બદલાય તેમ એપલ પણ બદલાય છે – સફળ કંપનીનું રહસ્ય આ જ હોય છે.
આ iPadનું બિઝનેશ મોડેલ iBooks નામનાં ઓનલાઈન બુક-સ્ટોર પર વધુ આધારિત છે. તમે તેમાં પીડીએફ ફાઈલો વાંચી શકશો કે નહી તે ખ્યાલ નથી, પણ કોઈક રસ્તો તો નીકળી આવશે. મને લાગે છે કે કોઈ વ્યક્તિ હવે એકલું ઈ-રીડર લેવા કરતાં આને વધુ પસંદગી આપશે, કારણકે અહીં iPod/iPhoneનાં કાર્યક્રમો પણ ચલાવી શકાશે. આખા કદ ઓનસ્ક્રિન કી-બોર્ડની સુવિધા મને ગમી. ડિઝાઈન સરસ પણ છે. નેટબુક જેવું કોમ્પયુટર લેવા કરતાં આ વધુ સારું પડશે. કિંમત પણ લગભગ પોસાય તેવી રાખવામાં આવી છે – જે નવાઈની વાત લાગે છે. જોઈશું હવે તે ક્યારે માર્કેટમાં આવે છે..
No Multitasking, No Camera, No USB, No GPS,
are you still happy?
even I am waiting for some hacks. till then no ways I am going to buy this.

આ “મોટો” આઈ-ફૉન જ છે, હજી લૅપટૉપને બદલે વાપરી શકાય એમ નથી. કુણાલે અમુક કારણો જણાવી જ દીધાં…

હું ચિરાગ અને કુણાલ જોડે સંમત છું, કે એ એક મોટો આઈફોન જ છે. Apple પાસેથી કૈક innovative product ની અપેક્ષા હતી.
આઈફોન જે કરી શકે છે એજ આ પણ કરી શકે છે……….apart from making voice calls over cellular network.

Apple is leveraging technology used in iPhone and iPod touch for iPad which makes sense. I agree that it just looks like giant iPod touch and does the same things you can do on your iPhone/iPod touch but the experience looks better on iPad. Lots of people bashed iPhone for lacking buttons and for its touch interface but changed their perspective after getting their hands on one. It is all about user interface, ease of use and integrating hardware and software for the best user experience. I think this is a step in right direction. And we yet to see more 3rd party apps and iBooks to find out true potential of this device. Steve Jobs clearly mentioned that this device sits between iPhone and Macbooks. It is not for replacing your laptop/smartphone but it does give better user experience in some areas like web browsing, photo sharing, emailing etc.

Ofcourse its not a computer or laptop. But to kunal, the 3G versions will come with GPS. Google maps and in UK you can use TomTom application same as iphone for voice guided routes.
I was thinking to buy Amazon Kindle but looks like will wait for iPad now as in nearly same price you can get more features.

Not able to provide multitasking is biggest draw back. User can least expect listening music while browsing / reading. But that is not possible with ipad.
Provision of web cam could have been big plus point but it is missing.
Also, the memory is not enough I think for multimedia gadget. Max 64 GB means very few movies you can store.
If I’m not wrong then it does have USB support.
May be the next version of iPad will be more appealing. Till that time i feel that iPhone is more suitable for those who are always on the run.
Not to offend any one but fact is iphone, ipad all these gadgets are not so useful in Indian context. Getting wi fi connection is still a luxury in India. 3G services still not launched in India. So even if one has hi fi gadget in palm, one can just show off but can not exploit all the features.

ના. મારા જેવો સામાન્ય માણસ પણ જો આવા ગેજેટ્સ ધરાવી શકે તો.. વાઈ-ફાઈની વાત સાચી. મારે તો ઓફિસ અને ઘરે બન્ને જગ્યાએ ઈન્ટરનેટ છે. મેં એવા પણ વ્યક્તિઓ જોયા છે જે મહિને ૫૦૦૦ રુપિયાનો ખર્ચો હોટલમાં કરે છે પણ ઘરે ૧૦૦૦ રુપિયાનું ઈન્ટરનેટ ઘરે લેપટોપ-કોમ્પ્યુટર હોવા છતા પોસાતું નથી.
ટૂંક સાર, હજી માનસિકતા બદલાઈ નથી. કોઈપણ સુવિધા હોવા છતાં, માનસિકતા મહત્વની વસ્તુ છે.

I think that some of Apple apps like iPod and Mail should be able to work in background like they work on iPod touch and iPhone.
Agree with you on the memory (64 GB is not enough if you want to store many movies, should have provided option to expand) and availibility of public wi-fi hotspots in India but many people are opting for wireless broadband setup at their homes. You can still use iPhone and iPad on the go with Vodafone or Airtel’s EDGE without issues. Connectivity will be slower compared to 3G networks as you will have to wait for few more seconds to get data on device.
